Its a little late, but I still wanted to post about Earth Day. I came across this great post about Heineken bottles being designed to double as bricks on Inhabitat. Alfred Heineken thought up the Heineken WOBO bottle (world bottle) while in the Carribean. He was troubled by the trashed beaches and lack of existent dwellings for low income people.
So he created a bottle that is square in shape and lays horizontally. The new shape is meant to have the bottles interlock with eachother. This idea of reusing the beer bottles as bricks never took off, but there are a few structures that were created. Many people thought this project never took off because the bottles were ahead of their time.
